Characteristic features:
Renier cherries use European sweet cherries (Mazzard cherry) as rootstocks, which are wild or sweet cherry seedlings used for grafting. Mature Rainier cherry trees are about 30 to 35 feet (9.1 to 10.7 meters) tall and can adapt to various soils. When planting, there should be appropriate spacing between each tree so that the branches can receive sufficient sunlight, and the fruits can fully mature and have a sweet taste when harvested. Rainier cherry trees can bear fruit within 3 to 5 years after planting, bloom in early April, and harvest around late June to early July. The fruit is milky yellow to orange yellow with a touch of red spots.
This variety of cherry needs to be pollinated by other varieties of cherries, usually Bing, Van, Lapins, Black Tartarian, Lambert, etc. Rainier cherries are most suitable for growing in the cold resistant zones 4-9 of the United States Department of Agriculture.
